This picture is of Soi 7 from an angle you don't often see it.... it looks like a beaten up old shanty town and I suppose that it is in parts! It's all part of the Thailand magic; the beer bars might be a bit rugged but they have a 'developing world' charm about them that is difficult to deny if you have been there. At night the place is lit up with neon, there is music blasting out and there is fun in the air. If you know Soi 7, you'll probably recognise the sign for the Silver Star agogo bar in the picture, this is still probably the best agogo bar in the area.
The picture is taken from one of the rooms at the Eastiny Plaza hotel and it shows the beer bars from an angle behind the soi. The hotel is actually located on Soi 8, so you can get a good idea of how close the two sois are together. I can't help wondering how long the beer bars here will survive before a developer of some sort comes along and builds something more hi-rise and profitable on the land. Being right next to the beach means that this really is prime location for future development and it is almost certainly just a matter of time before something happens - I've heard rumours that the authorities are planning something.
I would miss the nightlife on Soi 7 if it disappeared but, then again, there are other new bar developments in Pattaya, e.g. Action Street, that would really benefit if the bar trade moved inland a little. Whatever the future holds for this nightspot it is currently one of my favourite places in Pattaya for a night out. After Walking Street, this area is still the next biggest draw for holiday makers and with good reason. The place has variety, quality and character in spades!!
